LRK Philly Volunteers with CDC

Several members of LRK’s Philadelphia studio have volunteered their design skills to help the Community Design Collaborative, an organization that provides pro bono preliminary design services to nonprofit organizations in greater Philadelphia, with a conceptual design for affordable housing.

The design for Mount Vernon Manor, located in the Mantua neighborhood of West Philadelphia, required 200 volunteer hours.

A long-vacant rowhome and two adjacent vacant lots offer Mount Vernon Manor CDC an opportunity to pursue a mixed-use development combining its new offices with affordable apartments. A recessed “front porch” and a glass storefront will draw residents into the CDC’s offices, which will include a community room accommodating 100. A separate entrance with an elevator will make the apartments above accessible. The renovated rowhome next door will provide a family with affordable housing. Read more
