The Kansas City Star - When redeveloping the 18-hole golf course into Meadowbrook Park, city officials and developer VanTrust agreed on a reserving 60 percent of the property for an urban park. With significant buy-in from residents, what resulted was a “park framed by a neighborhood” and the jewel in the development’s crown. The Meadowbrook Park community will feature 53 single family homes, 20 twin villas, 282 upscale apartment units, a boutique inn, and 300-unit senior living facility. LRK is providing planning; architectural and interior design services for the Kessler luxury apartments, the inn & restaurant, twin villas and some single family homes; and design review services for all single family homes at Meadowbrook Park. Shawnee Mission Post - Construction has started on Meadowbrook Park's new 54-room inn. When complete, the inn will feature exterior event space, a swimming pool and spa, restaurant and café, business center with conference room, and a covered patio with fire pit. Expected completion is August 2019. LRK is providing architecture and interior design services. Read more.
Multi-Housing News - The LRK-designed Chisca on Main is featured as a Gold Award winner in the MHN Excellence Awards' Adaptive Reuse: High Rise category. The judges praised the project team for redeveloping the two buildings rather than demolishing them and for successfully linking the two structures into a cohesive multifamily community.
The Michael, located in Austin, is also featured as a Silver Award winner in the Development & Design: Mid-Rise Category. Read more.
The LRK-designed Chisca on Main recently won a Gold Multi-Housing News' Excellence Award in the Adaptive Reuse: High Rise category. Winners were formally announced at an award ceremony at the Resource Furniture showroom in Manhattan on October 19th.
Commercial Appeal - The 103-year-old Central Station building in Memphis' South Main Arts District will undergo extensive renovation into a 124-unit hotel with ballroom, bar, meeting areas and 6,000 square feet of retail. The project will also transform the existing Amtrak lobby and ticketing space in the hotel lobby as well as create a new Amtrak lobby near the former Memphis Police substation. LRK is providing architectural services for this project. Read more.
Memphis Business Journal - The Chisca on Main was recently named a finalist in the 5th annual Building Memphis Awards in the Best Renovations/Conversions category for large projects ($10M and over). The Building Memphis awards honor projects that have created a community impact in the areas of investment, jobs created and potential impact on a surrounding area, and it recognizes the major players involved in the projects, including owners, developers, brokers, architects/designers, engineers, contractors and financial lenders. Winners will be announced Thursday, Feb. 16. Read more.
The Commercial Appeal - With the addition to the newly-opened Big River Crossing, the Main to Main project has given a long-overdue facelift to sidewalks, curbs and the pedestrian Main Street Mall, creating a walking and bicycling route for Memphians and tourists to enjoy. Main to Main connects many of LRK's projects including South Junction apartments, Hotel Chisca, Tennessee Brewery, Artspace Lofts and Old Dominick Distillery. Read more.
The Daily News - This week some of the first residents will begin moving into The Plaza, the newer of the two buildings comprising The Chisca on Main. Originally built in 1961, the building features 32 units on four floors. Construction on the Chisca redevelopment is expected to be entirely completed by year’s end and will consist of an additional 129 units in the historic Chisca Hotel building, as well as two ground-floor restaurants, including a Lyfe Kitchen and a second, yet to be identified.
