The Kansas City Star - When redeveloping the 18-hole golf course into Meadowbrook Park, city officials and developer VanTrust agreed on a reserving 60 percent of the property for an urban park. With significant buy-in from residents, what resulted was a “park framed by a neighborhood” and the jewel in the development’s crown. The Meadowbrook Park community will feature 53 single family homes, 20 twin villas, 282 upscale apartment units, a boutique inn, and 300-unit senior living facility. LRK is providing planning; architectural and interior design services for the Kessler luxury apartments, the inn & restaurant, twin villas and some single family homes; and design review services for all single family homes at Meadowbrook Park. Memphis Medical News - When Church Health recently consolidated their 13 separate facilities under one roof at Crosstown Concourse, their design goals were efficiency and beauty as a means of expressing their "respect for every person coming through the doors for care." In addition to a warm, welcoming patient-centered space, another goal was for patients and visitors to see "wellness happening" throughout the facility, leading to a significant use of glass and open floor plans. Commercial Appeal - Much anticipated Elemento Neapolitan Pizza is set to open later this week in Crosstown Concourse. The LRK-designed restaurant has an industrial feel with high exposed ceilings and concrete floors, while two white-tiled pizza ovens ordered from a 100-year old Italian company are the focus of the space. Not just any bakery, Lucy J's mission is to provide job training and employment with living wages to individuals who are transitioning out of homelessness. Shawnee Mission Post - Construction has started on Meadowbrook Park's new 54-room inn. When complete, the inn will feature exterior event space, a swimming pool and spa, restaurant and café, business center with conference room, and a covered patio with fire pit. Expected completion is August 2019. LRK is providing architecture and interior design services. Read more.

The Daily News - The Nineteenth Century Club, an 107-year-old mansion on Union Avenue, is being meticulously restored to its former grandeur. LRK's Tony Pellicciotti says the goal of the restoration was to put as many of the architectural elements back into the building because it was so grand and fabulous and fit the purpose of a club, which is similar to an upscale restaurant. The French-Asian restaurant, Izakaya, is set to open in the 16,000 square-foot building in November. Read more.
The Daily News – The YMCA will open its 11th Memphis-area branch in Crosstown Concourse in partnership with the Church Health Center. The 25,000-square-foot gym will open within the Church Health Center’s 150,000 square-foot headquarters early next year. Plans for the facility include fitness equipment, a walking track, group workout and dance classes, personal training, physical therapy, and programming for the intellectually disabled. LRK is providing architectural and interior design services for the Church Health Center and architectural, interior design, urban design, sustainability, and federal historic rehabilitation consulting for the overall Crosstown Concourse project. The Commercial Appeal – The historic Nineteenth Century Club building at 1433 Union, future home to upscale Japanese/French restaurant Izakaya, will host multiple dining rooms, bars, and lounges, each with its own fireplace and ample natural light. LRK provided renovation designs for the 107-year-old building, which is set to open by early November. Read more.

Talis Park (Naples, FL), the West Osceola Branch Library (Celebration, FL), and Waterset Welcome Center (Tampa, FL) were First Place winners. The National Civil Rights Museum Administration Building (Memphis, TN) and the LIFT Wellness Center (Jackson, TN) received Merit awards, while the Waterset Welcome Center was also named Best in Show!
