Retrofit magazine has published the winners of the 2020 Metamorphosis awards, including features on The Hill Shopping Center and Orion Federal Credit Union Headquarters. The Hill received an Honorable mention in the Exterior category of Retrofit’s Metamorphosis awards, while Orion Federal Credit Union Headquarters won an Honorable Mention in the Transformation category.
The Hill, a 1970’s shopping center, lacked good visibility and people tended to go only if they had a specific tenant to visit. LRK’s design helped meet the developer’s goal of creating a shopping center destination, while saving the cost of new construction.
LRK was charged with repurposing an abandoned Wonder Bread factory into the new headquarters for Orion Federal Credit Union, while also creating a work atmosphere that was so compelling employees would be enthusiastic about their relocation from the suburbs to downtown Memphis. Now providing Class A office space for more than 225 employees, the structure creatively reuses parts of the existing factory complex, while delivering an open, collaborative office environment with visual connections to downtown.
