Citizen Apartments Outperform Leasing Projections

Daily Memphian – Residents have begun moving in to the second and final phase of The Citizen apartments, located in the heart of Midtown Memphis. Phase I was opened last spring and is currently 100 percent leased. Memphis Medical District Featured in CNU’s Public Square

CNU – The Congress for the New Urbanism’s Public Square featured the Memphis Medical District’s process of improving the sense of place and economy in surrounding neighborhoods while avoiding displacement. LRK worked with the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) to create a Streetscape Improvement Playbook that act as a guide to making improvement in the public realm throughout the District.

LRK’s Sydney Matsumoto and Team Receive Peterson Prize for Measured Drawings

National Park ServiceLRK’s Sydney Matsumoto was part of the first-place team for the Charles E. Peterson Prize, a student competition of measured drawings presented by the National Park Service’s Heritage Documentation Program, The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, the American Institute of Architects, and the Association for Preservation Technology. Sydney and her team documented the Vizcaya – Casino, in Miami. The drawing will augment the HABS/HAER/HALS Collection of measured drawings at the Library of Congress. Sydney recently became a full-time LRK employee after completing her master’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Miami and interning with LRK in the summer of 2018.

Nando Micale to Present at Texas Housing Conference

Nando Micale, Principal in LRK’s Philadelphia studio, will present on current HUD neighborhood redevelopment programs at the Texas Housing Conference on August 23rd in Austin. The panel will focus on comprehensive approaches to improve the lives of Texans through addressing diverse affordable housing needs, neighborhood infrastructure reinvestment, wrap around resident services, innovative education initiatives for at-risk student populations, and overall quality of life. Nando’s expertise lies in HUD’s current Choice Neighborhoods Initiatives (CNI) around the country, both in the planning and implementation phases of Neighborhood Transformation. He will present case studies for Philadelphia, Kansas City, Camden (NJ), Omaha, and San Antonio. His current projects include the implementation of the South City Choice Neighborhood in Memphis and the Transformation Plan for North 30th Choice Neighborhood in Omaha.

Metropolis – LRK is thrilled to announce that Crosstown Concourse is the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence Gold Medal winner. The Rudy Bruner Award is a national competition that focuses on urban placemaking excellence and projects that make a beneficial impact on American cities. Todd Richardson, co-director and cofounder of Crosstown Arts, commented that “Crosstown Concourse has received a number of highly regarded awards over the past year, but this one is really special.” Richardson says the Gold Medal prize will be used to support “ongoing arts events and programming that contribute to the unique Crosstown experience.”

Central Station Hotel Close to Completion

Daily Memphian - The renovated Central Station Hotel is scheduled to open in September. Guestrooms feature large windows and tall ceilings with spectacular views of downtown, while a 3,500-square-foot hotel restaurant and bar will anchor the ground floor, along with an additional 7,000 square feet of retail. Light-filled interiors feature mid-century modern furniture and an emphasis on the Memphis music scene, while an extensive art collection focuses on the train route stretching from New Orleans to Memphis to Chicago. Architectural services are being provided by LRK in association with Bounds and Gillespie Architects.

Renovation of Orion's New Headquarters Nearing Completion

Daily Memphian - Orion Federal Credit Union is putting the finishing touches on their new headquarters and on Tuesday night board members, friends, and community members gathered at the new space to help celebrate. Orion’s staff of 140 will soon move into the 98-year-old former Wonder Bread factory, which has been renovated to incorporate a sleek modern design and light-filled space set amidst the building’s historic details. Orion’s renovation has also served as a catalyst for the whole Edge District neighborhood. LRK is providing architectural and interior design services for Orion’s historic renovation.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – On May 13th, HUD announced the award of a $25 million implementation grant for the redevelopment of the Spencer Homes public housing site and the surrounding neighborhood along North 30th Street. This Choice Neighborhoods funding leverages an additional $157 million of investments to transform the corridor, which is centered on Seventy Five North Revitalization Corporation’s Highlander community.

The Best Real Estate Deals honor the most significant commercial real estate deals that occurred in the Mid-South in 2017 and 2018. The Citizen was a winner in the residential category, while 999 S. Historic U.S. Marine Hospital Soon To Be Renovated

Daily Memphian - Construction is expected to commence in April or May on the U.S. Marine Hospital renovation. The project consists of three brick buildings: the 75,000-square-foot main hospital and a 15,000-square-foot maintenance structure built in the 1930s and a 4,500-square-foot nurses' quarters built in the 1880s. The buildings will provide 71 multifamily units including studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. In addition to the planned apartment amenities, residents will have easy access to the nearby Metal Museum, Chickasaw Heritage Park, and Crump Park. LRK is providing architectural services for the renovation.
