With the goal of creating mixed-use, mixed-income housing, 460 aging inner city, public housing units are being replaced with 400 new units, including 80 senior apartments, a community center and green spaces integrally tied to the surrounding neighborhood, local schools, parks and other redevelopment. The project is part of the 10-year, $1 billion Triangle Noir initiative to transform a 20-city-block area south of FedExForum. The long-range plan is to secure another HOPE VI funding grant to raze and redevelop the adjacent deteriorating Foote Homes complex.
