A long-term, public and private effort to transform a neglected urban neighborhood, Uptown Memphis is a $193-million redevelopment initiative including a $35-million Hope VI grant for the transformation of Lauderdale Courts and Hurt Village, two of the city’s oldest public housing projects. LRK created design guidelines to direct the process. A master plan integrates mixed-income rental and for-sale single family homes within the historic neighborhood, an innovative approach for public housing.
