Cresting at the Northeast ridge of the site, Jackson Central Merry Middle/High School’s new entry celebrates its rich history with a renewed mission and focus. JCM had been closed since 2015, and after extensive renovations re-opened this fall to welcome over 800 students, 6th to 12th grade with bold colors, refreshed classrooms, and graphics that highlight school spirit. The principles of project-based learning and 21st century classroom inspired and informed the design throughout. Each classroom maximizes student-centered learning with layouts that can flex with the current and future needs. The hallway is punctuated by a steady rhythm of portals and collaboration hubs invite dialogue and provide a place for impromptu exchange. Airy clerestory-lit collaboration spaces and opportunities for views and natural light spark creativity. Dedicated environments give way to multi-use gathering spaces that can pivot to numerous applications to host sports, the arts, or maker space.
