Merging the historic street context with contemporary funk and eclecticism, STAX Music Academy serves as a continuation of a great musical heritage and a mentoring presence for neighborhood youth. Approximately 250 inner-city students attend private music enrichment classes at the academy, which is affiliated with the music department of LeMoyne-Owen College. The academy is located adjacent the STAX Museum – two cultural icons anchoring the economic revitalization of the historic neighborhood.
