West Osceola Branch Library

Celebration, FL

The contemporary design features a series of edited rectilinear forms highlighted by large expanses of glass to frame the views and bring the exterior inside. The front entry porch provides a beacon to the community while providing an elevated stage for performances on the front lawn.

The building is organized around a central information spine flanked by the public spaces. Work spaces are placed along the north and east to provide a buffer from the busy interstate and exterior services spaces.  Large storefront openings on the south and west facades of the main collections provide framed views to the front lawn and adjacent golf course.  The open structure and tall roof allow for abundant natural light to filter throughout the building. As the library archetype transitions into the 21st century, the open plan integrates both printed books and digital media while providing the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the community.
